Resource Provision
Cumberland Community School (CCS) is a learning community where our students have high aspirations. We want every student to grow into well-informed, well-balanced and confident citizens.
In the Resource Provision we achieve this by providing a highly differentiated and creative curriculum in a nurturing environment. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and some parts of the National Curriculum.
The Resource Provision is split into four classes depending on the individual needs of the students and is set up to meet the complex learning needs of 20 Autistic children with Educational Health Care Plans.
Students’ learning includes recommendations made by other services such as Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Educational Psychologists. Learning in the Resource Provision is multi sensory and planned to incorporate any specific targets the child might have. All staff make sure that students’ sensory needs are met where necessary through creative play, sensory circuits and the use of our sensory rooms on each floor. Other interventions are also used such as Attention Autism, Intensive Interaction, Social Stories, Lego Therapy and many more. The Resource Provision has a Total Communication approach and the students are given a range of opportunities and methods for communication including Core Vocabulary Boards, Visual Prompts, Signalong, language and visual cues.
