Keeping Children Safe online
The online world is integral to how children stay in touch with their friends, and access to the internet is now available like never before.
However, there are inherent risks associated with new technologies and it is essential for young people and their parents/carers to understand how to reduce these risks.
Below are a number of links to different websites which give advice to parents/carers and young people on how to stay safe online. Please take some time to look through them.
NSPCC
NSPCC Net AwareNSPCC have launched their Net Aware app to give parents the tools and knowledge to access advice on the go. This is the only guide for parents where social networking sites and apps aimed at children are rated by parents, helping them make an informed decision about which is most appropriate for their child at different ages.
CEOP
The Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre is part of UK law enforcement.
Childnet
A non-profit organisation working with others to “help make the Internet a great and safe place for children”.
Facebook's own page explaining its privacy settings to users.
Get Safe Online
A UK based Website offering factual and easy-to-understand information on online safety.
A Guide to Internet safety and safe surfing. The information on the site is targeted at all different age ranges as well as advice for parents / carers and teachers The site is run by CEOP.
UK Safer Internet Centre
A partnership of three leading organisations: Childnet International, Internet Watch Foundation and SWGfL, working together to make the internet a great and safe place for children and young people

The service is a strength based programme working with a variety of families where there is a child with emotional, social and or behavioural difficulties.

Newham offers a range of programmes, workshops and online resources for parents to access for free.
Mermaids
Mermaids supports transgender, nonbinary and gender-diverse children and young people until their 20th birthday, as well as their families and professionals involved in their care.
SHINE - Sexual Health Advice and Support
Shine offer clinic sessions for young people aged 21 and under.
Clinics are discreet, confidential and services are completely free. All sessions are walk-in and wait only, so there is no need to book an appointment in advance. Clinics are open after school and college, to ensure that they are as accessible as possible for young people
Newham Safeguarding Children Partnership
The job of Newham Safeguarding Children Partnership is to make sure agencies are working together to safeguard children and young people and make them safe
AAA Zone
AAA work with children and young people providing a range of interventions, support and activities delivered from neighbourhood play hubs in the London Borough of Newham.
Anti Bullying Alliance
ABA is a coalition of organisations and individuals,including Cumberland Community School, who work together to help stop bullying and create safer environments in which children and young people can live, grow, play and learn. REIN work with young people to deliver an activities programmes througout the year.
Tackling Child Abuse (HM Government/DfE)
A government campaign called 'Together we can tackle child abuse'. Aimed at everyone in the community, it includes videos explaining physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and online abuse.
It reminds us what changes in appearance, behaviour or communication look out for. and has a search engine to find out where to report abuse.
